The Create Screw tool determines the appropriate Trapezoidal (TR) thread based on the radius of your selected cylinder. To generate a specific thread size, ensure your cylinder's radius in SketchUp matches the corresponding range in the table below before activating the tool.
If your cylinder is slightly larger than your desired thread, the plugin will offer to automatically scale the cylinder down to the exact maximum required diameter.
The Create Nut tool generates an internal TR thread by inserting a pre-generated nut into an existing hole in your workpiece.
When you click on the inner wall of a hole, the tool calculates the current radius and compares it to standard TR sizes. It will present you with a dropdown menu offering thread sizes that can fit within your hole's maximum capacity. If you choose a thread size that requires a smaller diameter, the tool will automatically scale your hole down to fit the selected thread perfectly before insertion.
Crucial Requirement: Wall Thickness ("Meat" Around the Hole)
Because the plugin inserts a full nut structure—which includes a wider chamfered edge (cap) at the top and bottom—the total outer width of the inserted geometry is larger than the internal thread diameter itself.
For the insertion to work properly and result in a clean Solid model, your workpiece must have at least 1 mm of extra solid material ("meat") surrounding the maximum outer boundary of the hole. If your model's walls are too thin, the inserted nut will break through the outer surface, resulting in geometry errors.
